My name is Les Pearson and my walk number yesterday was 382. The walk was very well organized and thanks to all the volunteers.

Thank you very much for your hospitality, patience and kindness. This event was well organized and the people along the way were very friendly-the cookies were awesome! Andy Sibbald

My hat is off to the organizers of the Great Walk but, I bow to the massive number of volunteers that made the event possible. I have taken part in a lot of events and volunteered for a lot of events but, the work that has gone into the registration, expo, start and rest/waterstations puts all other to shame.

The people are up at all hours of the night and into the day but, they were all there with a smile and a cheer when I ran the race. It meant a lot to me to crest a hill or round a corner out in the woods, just when I was feeling I was totally alone, to come across such a supporting group of people at each stop. Everyone should be very proud of what you have done. Eric Spence

We enjoyed the walk this year, some of us suffering more than we ever thought possible. With blisters and bleeding feet, I was lucky enough to comlete the event with my feet unscathed. However, the pain in my sciatic could not be ignored and both my husband and I ended up in the emergency department seeking relief when the Tylenol and Ibuprofen became ineffective. (don't let this discourage you from the adventure!

We are still hobbling around today (2 days later) but we are ready to do it again next year... already plotting strategy to improve our times. We didn't do as well this year... but there is always next year.

I tried to keep busy along the route, snapping photos, listening to my IPOD, playing an electronic game, reading, walking backwards, singing off key and leaving little notes along the way for others to read and enjoy.

I want to thank all the volunteers for their smiles and enthusiasm... I could not have completed this without them. See you next year! Sincerely, Heather Lippingell #219 Marc Lippingwell #218

I just wanted to thank you and your wonderful organization for another Great Lake Walk. I can’t thank you and all the volunteers enough for the fabulous job they did yesterday (as well as all the hard work leading up to the walk). It was my fourth walk and it gets better each time in terms of the volunteers’ wonderful spirit and enthusiasm. Thank you and the team. Jim Myhill-Jones

Happy First Day of Fall!

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every one of you who was out volunteering and/or cheering at the Great Lake Walk. It is a huge, amazing event for this community and seeing the level of support is very gratifying. I especially want to thank the team out at Rest Stop 6....Kathie, Sherri, Maria, Linda and Isabella were amazing!(and I'm positive we were waaaay louder than Rest Stop 5!! lol) If I'm still around when Isabella gets to high school I'm going to hire her to work here at Curves! Thanks to Anthony for the great music! We had a fabulous time out there and are looking forward to next year. I'd also like to thank all of you who have shown support for Shelley Harding from Port Alberni. She continues to inspire all of us who work here at Curves and I know she appreciates all the encouragement she recieves from Lake Cowichan Curves and the community as a whole! Chris from Curves

Thanks for such a well-organized event! I'm glad I did it once. As someone without a car, I was really pleased that it was possible to get to/from Lake Cowichan and Youbou on Friday and from Lake Cowichan on Sunday by public transportation. (I took Greyhound between Vancouver and Duncan.

Every year, the Great Lake Walk has been promoted by Volkssporting BC, an organization of clubs which host non-competitive walks year-round for fun, fitness, and friendship. GLW has been on my to-do list ever since it began, and I'm so glad I can finally say "I DID IT!" I'm very proud of the 56K stamp in my Volkssport record books. After the walk, I learned that the Great Lake Walk Society paid the fee so that the walk would be a sanctioned Volkssport event. Thanks so much for doing that. Verni, a GLW Survivor (member of Volkssporting BC)

Hello Organizers Extraordinaires Thank you for another wonderful Great Lake Run/Walk! Your organization is superb, the volunteers 110% enthusiastic, the rest stops very supportive, the foot 'angels' soothing = a great experience. We had walkers from Spokane and Seattle on our team this year - they have gone home with good memories and GLW number plate frames to spread the word in their cities. Hopefully that will result in more participants. The low numbers are the only disappointing aspect of the event. I - selfishly! - want the event to continue so I publicize it everywhere. I hope others do too. We entered a team of 6 representing Cowichan Family Life Association. As the team organizer, I am wondering what I need to do to receive the team lithographed Michaela Davidson print. Please let me know. I hope you have all had a more restful and relaxing week. Appreciatively Bridget Bruneski (#61)

Yes, walking 56 kilometres is a pretty big undertaking and I am so proud of myself and all of the other participants for finishing. But there are so many unsung heroes that need to be acknowledged. I have been involved in a large number of running events and fundraisers, and I have to say that the volunteers and the community of Lake Cowichan/Youbou are among the best I have ever encountered. To the people who prepared and served us dinner at the Youbou Community Hall the night before the walk; the manager and pin-stackers who donated their time to allow us to enjoy a free bowling match; the people who prepared enough sandwiches, rice krispy squares, cut-up fruit and gatorade, water (and even cappuccinos) to feed a small country. To the people who got up in the wee hours of the morning - in the pouring rain - to set up and manage the 12 checkpoints along the way. To the cheerleaders who gave the walkers and runners inspiration to keep going and who made us feel like rock stars, the medics who treated our aches and pains, the residents who sat at the side of the road all day to cheer us on, and to the fantastic band at checkpoint 11. To the volunteers who gave us foot baths and rubs I'd have paid a kazillion dollars for (at the time) and to Carolyn for her reflexology session that I'll never forget. To the communities of Lake Cowichan, Youbou, Honeymoon Bay and Mesachie Lake......I give you all a standing ovation for your spirit, your kindness, your outstanding attitude and dedication. Please know that your efforts made a HUGH impact on all the participants of this challenging event. You have my undying respect and appreciation!! sincerely Candy Little (#220) Victoria, BC Stephanie Rabbers & Candy Little coming to the finish line!
